Grosse Pointe Theatre’s Youth on Stage program has been an annual offering to the community since 2001. The program teaches youth, ages six to fourteen, basic acting and performance techniques through their participation in classroom sessions and in live performance under the guidance and direction of seasoned actors and directors from Grosse Pointe Theatre and guest artists. The program offers an opportunity for parents and older siblings to participate in the Youth on Stage shows by helping with sets, costumes, props, makeup and back stage crews. Grosse Pointe residency is not a requirement. Youth on Stage provides a safe, cooperative environment where boys and girls can develop a positive self-image while learning various aspects of theatre including:

  • Audition Preparation
  • Rehearsal Process
  • Acting Techniques
  • Character Analysis & Development
  • Improvisational Skills
  • Speech Projection and Clarity
  • Mental and Physical Preparation for Roles

MISSION STATEMENT

To help young people to learn to display confidence, creativity and leadership, while bringing imagination alive.

YOUNG ACTING CLASS

(Grades 1-3) These classes are designed for encouraging students to create, share and develop skills that can be used to build theater foundations which can be used to enhance life-long skills. This is done through exercises and games, while preparing for a showcase on the last day of class

YOUTH ON STAGE (YOS)

(Grades 4-9) These classes are designed to strengthen skills learned in YAC and summer camp. The students use the play rehearsals as a tool to build character, enhance projection and clarity and to gain a better understanding of acting techniques. Mental and physical preparation lead the way to the final performance.

SUMMER CAMP

Fun, Fun, Fun …. with plenty of exercises and games! This camp is for introducing new theater experiences or for sharpening and enhancing theatre tools, while working toward a show case at the end of the week.
